Office on Aging’s staff match income-eligible seniors with adoptable older pets. Program participants must be 60 years of age or older, residents of Knox County, income-eligible, and live independently in a pet-friendly environment. Pets adopted by Knox PAWS participants are provided with continued veterinary exams, vaccinations, heartworm/flea prevention and other pet supplies or services as needed.

Each month, the CAC Office on Aging’s Knox PAWS and Feed-a-Pet programs provide almost 3,600 pounds of pet food to 112 dogs and 113 cats owned by 75 low income seniors in the Knoxville-Knox County area. Our supply of dog food is critically low!
Without the assistance of Feed-a-Pet, those enrolled in the program struggle each month to feed their pets and sometimes go without food themselves in order to feed their furry friends.
The Feed-A-Pet program is for seniors that already own pets, but struggle to buy food.
- FAP is a monthly pet food delivery service for eligible individuals that already have pets in their home, but struggle to afford pet food.
- FAP is for individuals age 60 or older, living independently in Knoxville/Knox County, with an annual income less than 150% of the federal poverty level.
- FAP participant pets are required to be spayed or neutered and current on basic core vaccines. Information and referral support to affordable resources for the FAP participants and their pets is available.
- Each month, the participants are provided with enough pet food to last them an entire month, for all the animals in their home that were originally enrolled in the FAP program.
- FAP delivers about 3,800 lbs. of pet food each month to seniors all over Knoxville/Knox County.
- When unrestricted funds are available, FAP is able to assist with veterinary services and grooming services as well as some pet supplies for FAP participants.
