Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)

If you are age 55 or older and you want to volunteer some of your time to community service (helping health care facilities, schools, faith-based groups, and many other non-profit organizations to achieve their goals), you might be interested in becoming part of the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program. Call us at 524-2786.

We recognize that your lifetime skills, talents, and experience are valuable and can be helpful towards a community need. What you know can be shared. You may want to learn something new and develop new skills while assisting with a project.

Our list of volunteer opportunities is always growing. We will work with YOUR interest, YOUR schedule, YOUR desire to be close to home or willingness to spend a few hours in an office or in a garden, with museum staff, or on the road delivering Mobile Meals or library books to the homebound, or perhaps focusing on homeland and community security issues. RSVP helps you with the “matching” process.

You can specify whether you want to share your volunteer time with other adults, children or teens; working one-on-one with someone who needs a mentor or a special pal, or contributing your unique skills to a group focused on a special project, task, or community event.

What makes RSVP such a special group to associate with?

  • You become a part of a national senior effort to help with local needs.
  • You get benefits with your membership and services.
  • Insurance. You get excess Auto and Personal Liability Insurance, offering coverage in addition to your personal policies, while you are on the volunteer job or traveling to and from your volunteer site.
  • Recognition Events.
  • Access to community and special events at reduced rates or no charge.

We are guided by our mission statement

RSVP recognizes and promotes the value of the wisdom and experience of seniors to our community. RSVP identifies volunteer opportunities within Knox County and recruits seniors according to their interests and possibilities toward the enrichment of our community.

No matter which way you go, or what door you open, a good volunteer is needed in every direction. The Retired & Senior Volunteer Program is looking for seniors who want to make a difference by helping neighbors in need and by directing their skills toward the solution of problems in their communities.

RSVP is a national program of Senior Corps. It is federally funded through the Corporation for National and Community Service.
